Training outside in 70-degree weather is a rarity for the Illinois women's track and field team in April.

So perhaps training on the outdoor track was the reason for the team's cheerfulness at practice on Wednesday.

Or possibly the team's good mood was left over from a breakthrough weekend where the Illini achieved 13 NCAA Regional Championships qualifying performances.

No matter the reason, the Illini were in good spirits as they executed a relatively light week of practice before heading to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 100th running of the Drake Relays on April 24th and 25th.

For the Illinois women's track and field team, success and mass NCAA regional qualifying performances came a week later than they had planned. But as any one of the eight new qualifiers would say, it's better late than never.

After experiencing gloomy weather in Arizona in what was supposed to be the Illinois women track and field team's premier meet of the season, a clearly disappointed Tonja Buford-Bailey mentioned one reason to be optimistic.

The Illinois women's track and field team went to the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. for two reasons: good competition and good weather. While the competition was as strong as expected, Saturday's weather in Arizona wasn't much better than it was in Champaign.

After competing outdoors in Orlando, Fla., the Illinois women's track and field team was back to practicing indoors in the Armory during this week.

They didn't make it to Disney World, but the Illinois women's track and field athletes found plenty of enjoyable things to do during a weeklong spring break in Orlando, Fla. The women's trip was a working vacation, and one that ended with the UCF Invitational, where two Illini qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Angela Bizzarri likes to run. "I really like working out in general," Bizzarri said. "I like being able to go outside of your door and go on a long run. On sunny days it's just gorgeous, and it's honestly relaxing.
