Every player to don an SIU uniform is fair game and assumed to be in his prime. Once a player is picked off the board, that player cannot be drafted.

PORTLAND, Ore. - In the absence of Illinois guard Chester Frazier, fellow seniors Trent Meacham and Calvin Brock played the game of their lives against 12th-seeded Western Kentucky. While their efforts on the court against the Hilltoppers didn't result in a win, it wasn't because of the seniors' performances.

The "upset" wasn't much of one despite what the seeding may have suggested. The No. 12-seeded Western Kentucky controlled most of the game against No. 5-seeded Illinois in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, winning 76-72 at the Rose Garden.

With senior guard Chester Frazier officially out of Thursday's matchup against Western Kentucky, Illinois head coach Bruce Weber knows what he needs during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. But after about 35 minutes, CBS host Greg Gumbel called out Illinois as the No. 5 seed in the South Regional. "I don't think we could be more excited about getting a five seed," Weber said.

Fans hoping for tickets to watch No. 5 seed Illini battle it out in Portland, Ore. this weekend are out of luck. All 350 tickets allotted to the team for the first weekend are being used by team players, coaches and families, said Derrick Burson, an associate director in the Illini Athletic Public Relations department.

"We've never had a public sale from our allotment on the first weekend," Burson said.

Not all of the NCAA tournament sights have been sold out, Burson said.

The Illinois men's basketball team's two regular-season victories against Purdue were certainly key triumphs. But the Illini's pair of wins came against an incomplete Boilermakers squad. With Hummel at full strength, Purdue looked like the team the media had in mind when it chose Purdue as the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten. After defeating the Illini 66-56 in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on Saturday, the Boilermakers beat Ohio State 65-61 on Sunday to take the conference tournament title.
